E.O.C Week 5: Discussion Questions

1.  In what way is Vera Wang a great example of the ever-changing career path of an individual?

Vera Wang is an excellent example of the ever changing career path of an individual. She started out as a talented figure skater and competed professionally throughout her teens.After graduating from college,Wang left her skating career and began working for Vogue magazine. Within a year, Wang was promoted to senior fashion editor. She held that title for the next 15 years. Then she left Vogue to take a job as design director for accessories at Ralph Lauren. She designed her own wedding dress, then opened a bridal boutique and soon launched her own signature collection. Now hugely popular, she has a large Hollywood following and also designs lingerie, jewelry, and home products.

2.  Go to www.verawang.com. What changes have occurred in the company since the writing of this chapter? Has the brand expanded into other products?

Vera Wang has recently launched her first fragrance and published a very highly anticipated wedding guide. Over the years her business has continued to grow. It now includes lingerie, jewelry, and products for the home. Wang has also reached a deal with Kohl's, to produce a less expensive line of ready-to-wear clothing exclusively for them called Very Vera. 

3.  In your own words describe the Vera Wang brand. How does this brand differ from others, such as Ralph Lauren or Dolce & Gabbana?

Vera Wang's brand represents elegance and class, She focuses more on her wedding gowns and bridal wear. Her designs are sophisticated and feminine and she creates her wedding gowns from a modern approach to bridal design. She also applies her signature layering, intricate draping and her precise attention to detail.
