E.O.C Week 8: Discussion Questions



1.  Why do consumers feel such a close attachment to their bags?

Consumers feel a sense of closure when they have one item that holds everything for them. The organization of your life is your purse/bag. This item contains all the contents of your every day life. It holds the essentials such as your wallet, car or house keys, lotion, perfume, make up, school essentials such as a notebook and pen. Sometimes a good book will be inside the contents of your purse. The beauty of it is that it comes in all sizes whether you just need to carry a clutch for a fancy evening or a huge purse on your way to the airport for a business meeting. Your bag is like your life line, it fits your life style and you can either have a casual bag or a very expensive one.  

2.  What is your favorite brand of bag, briefcase, or backpack, and why? How does this brand reflect your personality? Do you think you will ever switch to a different brand?

My favorite brand of bag will be Fossil. Their bags look very cool and have that old classic look. They are very appealing and remind me of archeologist bags. They are pretty pricey but some can be affordable. They are all leather and come in a variety of colors. From rusty 1940s looking bags to youthful vibrant sophisticated briefcases. I am an old soul therefore i buy old looking things or as i like to call them items with stories behind them not just a bag sewn together and marked for $150. No way man.

3.  Now that you have read this chapter, go to www.dantebeatrix.com and explain how the company has evolved. What is the latest news? How do you think the line reflects current fashion?
This line is pretty unique, it takes cute graphics and places them on soft and rich looking baby bags. The line has expanded to create water bottles for babies, little blankets, baby kid backpacks to big kid backpacks. The brand also has some celebrity exposure and the website is full of images of celebrities holding onto these baby bags and actually using them in their everyday lives.    

4.  Why do you think Dante Beatrix is so successful with the company’s ideas to pursue graphic design instead of just focusing on bag design? Is branding the key element that drives you to purchase a bag, briefcase, or backpack? Look at a bag you have now. Is it designer? What is the brand? What features really make it special, or is it really just the name that makes it unique? Describe your answers in detail.
